experimentation with light

For a really long time I've loved different colours and types of light. From "christmas" lights to lava lamps to the glittery version of a lava lamp.

A series I've worked on and off for a few years has a focus on these kinds of lights, using somewhat long exposures and playing with the lights in some way.

An earlier image (this one is about two years old and taken with a D200).

An image from last night, a bit more abstract, and actually taken with my iPhone (edited on the phone too, man that thing is powerful!).

Another from last night, again taken with the iPhone, but edited via Photoshop, surreal, abstract and funky. What do you see?

Panoramoic explorations

I have often been intrigued by panoramic images, their creation, what it takes to put them together. Over the years there have been cameras that would create panos in camera, I never really had access to these. Recently I had the opportunity to attend a sort of class, discussing how to create pano's in the digital darkroom, which enhanced my interest even more. Most of the time when I create an image, I think of the single frame. However, now in certain situations I'm thinking on a larger scale.

It first struck me, on a day trip to Edmonds Washington a few weeks ago. I took a bunch of images with my D200 and a bunch more with my iPhone. I took a series of images with the iPhone, which I knew would be made into a Pano. I had recently downloaded an app called "Autostitch", which is rated relatively well. This little app will import a multitude of images to create the pano. I think it did a pretty good job, granted this one was created with only two images. The image below was also edited via a couple of other apps on the phone, to play with colour and vignettes...

A couple of days ago I was organising some images and came across a total of 7 iPhone images, I had taken in mind of creating a larger pano, so I pulled them into Photoshop to see how it worked. For the most part, I dig it, there was a little bit out of alignment on the left side, so I cropped it of, the image below is created from about 6 1/3 vertical iPhone images. I also did a crop all the way across, to me this one looks more like a true pano.

Halloween Treats and the Trolloween

October ended with cupcakes and parades!

I normally like to bake during varied holidays, especially Halloween and Christmas. On Friday I made cupcakes and painted them, then of course photographed them. On Saturday, I took them to varied friends to enjoy!

swirly-ness

On Saturday night, I met up with a good friend I haven't seen in months. She lives in Fremont and I'm not too far from there. We decided to head up towards the Troll for "Trolloween". Where we joined in a parade that started at the Troll, went down to the Center of the Universe, down to the Burke-Gilman Trail and ended under the Fremont Bridge.

There were Voodoo Drummers (at least that's what I'm calling them, Skeleton drummers would work, but Voodoo sounds cooler!)

There were "mad" crowds.

And other varied spirits, this Spirit was on stilts. Very hard to tell from this image, but she came right up to me and hovered!
